KIDS ART SATURDAYS: Facilitated by Whitney Mallett
It's a free drop-in program for youth to make art every second Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. Some of the different things we've done include green-screen video, tie-dye T-shirts, clay sculptures, drip painting, mask-making, fabric collages, and slime creation. I've approached the class to be flexible and improvisational, to give the kids direction while also letting them react to the space and materials how they want. The kids who've participated have ranged from 5 to 16 years old. Some stay for the full three hours, some just drop in to do a craft on the way home from the grocery store. I've amassed different materials that I always have available and also introduce new activities and mediums so there is something novel to keep them excited. There are always multiple options of what they can experiment with on any given Saturday.
Different artist friends have helped. Justine Lugli helps regularly. Other helpers have included Amara Korley, Michael Walker, Dennis Lynch, and Rebecca Demi.

Our events are presented on the floor, not on a stage, dissolving the boundary between artist and viewer. This is how performance art is meant to be experienced and our mission is the glorification of performance art.
