DIGITAL SHAMAN LODGE _ a spirit journey through the 1nternet. This is a 48-hour ritual engagement of digital consciousness, imbuing the virtual into the real and the spiritual into the virtual. Throughout the night, up to ten select people will enter altered states of being, live out second lives, and encounter alternate selves in a prolonged happening / performance ritual.
Together, Wild Torus (WT) and fellow disciples will practice an immersive action-experience through use of mind altering influences such as aural field experimentation, frequency vibration modulation, visual suggestion exploration, and oral substances. Participants will upload a sacrament/catalyst to embark on the experience journey. The leader performers, WT, will act as experience initiators, guides, canaries in the coal mine. Outsiders will be invited to attend and also join in the happening.
In order to introduce the correct controlled setting for this ritual, throughout the performance WT and disciples will construct on-site a three-dimensional mandala/lodge/nest structure, which will act as the cradle for the physical bodies of the participants. Projected multiplicity of internet windows will materialize on translucent screens of scrim fabric stretched throughout, combined with smoke-and-mirrored reflections. On the screens and space surfaces will be the repetitive opening of digital windows and superficial viral content, i.e. YouTube videos, Buzzfeed quizzes, Wikipedia articles, etc. The entire happening is simulcast into the virtual realm, live tweeted, live streamed, and recorded on multiple cameras.
Participants will take on various roles and play with an assortment of spiritually suggestive objects and sound generating instruments, and engage with ethereal internet windows, seemingly floating throughout the entire space. Hypnotic, repetitive activities will be prepared, such as Hunger Hippo Games, which is an unscripted version of bobbing for apples.
The Digital Spirit Cycle® journey will begin with a departure ritual that Friday, early evening. It will end with an arrival ritual on Sunday (at the same time as Friday). Thus an opening and a closing event will take place, though the performance continues in-between.
Ultimately, the Digital Shaman Lodge will make contact with the spiritual core of the Net and build a repository of psychic energy. It will enact a setting for a communion that merges the Virtual with the Real. The Lodge will be a sacred space for the post-digital revolution generation, creating a unique church of digital nativity.

ABOUT THE GREAT AMERICAN PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL
What does it mean to be American? American in the sense of what it is to be living, working, and creating in the Americas: a broad and fluid definition of this hemispheric region and the people who identify with it—people of first nations, South/Central/North America, Canada, the Caribbean. The Great American Performance Art Festival is a series of performance art events curated around this question and its implications, most specifically the notion of borders and barriers. Borders are an arbitrary social construct reminiscent of colonization, war, and exploitation. The population of the Americas has grappled with issues regarding borders and migration, and barriers such as those between languages, political ideologies, religious beliefs, identities, races, ethnicities, demographics, privileges, communities, individuals, governing and law enforcement bodies, and countless other tensions that arise as a part of living in, working in, and identifying with the Americas.
Grace Exhibition Space Brooklyn and this horizontally organized group of curators and artists invited erformance art pieces that respond to the problematics of borders and barriers within the Americas. We seeked proposals for embodied art that reinterpret and reimagine the diverse social, cultural, and economic landscape of the Americas. We encourage proposals for pieces that extend to include broad cross-sections of communities and demographics, and especially those which include participatory elements that address the natural performative barrier between artist and audience. The Great American Performance Art Festival welcomes any interpretation, however abstract, of its proposed theme.
The Great American Performance Art Festival will take place from March-August 2015. Events will be held every other weekend at Grace Exhibition Space for March-May, and every other weekend at the Grace Performance Art Farm in Rosendale, NY from June-August. We will curate roughly 4-5 artists per event.
